Murano Glass conquers Munich

Murano Glass conquers Munich

The German town is home to a fascinating exhibition that focuses on glass art, with works coming from one of the most important private collections in the world.

Undisputed capital cities of creativity, Milano and Venice have been able to distinguish themselves during the 20th Century even thanks to another feature: through the Triennale in Milan and the Biennale in Venice, the two towns have given Murano glass all the attention it deserves, exhibiting artworks made with centuries-old techniques.

These are the premises of the Murano. Milano. Venezia. Glass exhibition at the Neue Sammlung Design Museum organized by the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich until 20th November.

A journey through artworks of artists that, over the years, have given proof of great talent in the domain of Murano glass.

AVeM, Venini, Barovier & Toso, Archimede Seguso are just some of the most important companies in the industry, responsible of an unprecedented revival of the Muranese art during the last century, made possible even by the work of talented designers that have cooperated with those firms starting from the ‘20s.

Aproximately 200 artworks will be on display and they belong to the Holz Collection of Berlin, one of the largest in the world for Murano glass pieces made in the 20th and 21st centuries. Among the most valuable pieces: the spiral goblet signed by Barovier and exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 1895, Carlo Scarpa’s vases, the famous Piebalds by Fulvio Bianconi and the Merletti by Archimede Seguso.
