In the long Venetian tradition of glassmaking, the island of Murano has certainly a prominent role since it helped to preserve secrets, traditions, techniques of this charming art for centuries.
It's in Murano that the Vetreria Artistica Colleoni glassworks has its headquarters where - along with the production - it started an itinerary of technical and artistic research, at the beginning of the third millennium.Alesandro Barbaro was the glass master at Colleoni's. His talent, emerging event from the most commercial production, finds its maximum expression in figurative and conceptual creations, such as in peculiar optical effects on vases and aquariums, or in sculptures of animals.
After the international success gained thanks to the Colosseo sculpture at The Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, and the Double Fountain at the Europa & Regina Hotel in Venice, the maestro is working - supported by Diego Bardella, glass artist and glass-blower assistant - on a series of elephant tusks, long 5.90 feet (1,80 meters) each, that will be used as chandeliers in a German castle.
He retired in 2010.
