Book published on the occasion of the exhibition "Tapio Wirkkala alla Venini + Toni Zuccheri alla Venini" at the Stanze Del Vetro in the island of San Giorgio, Venice.

Tapio Wirkkala (1915-1985), a leading figure in Finnish glass, arrived in Murano in 1965, invited to collaborate with the Venini glassworks by its young director, architect Ludovico de Santillana. Fascinated by Venetian glass techniques, which offered expressive possibilities distinctly different from Nordic crystal, Wirkkala embraced this experience with enthusiasm and established an extraordinary rapport with the skilled local artisans.

The book, based on thorough research and partly unpublished material from the Venini historical archives and the artist's personal archives, documents the results of this collaboration by showcasing about two hundred models, accompanied by their designs.

During his visits to Murano between the end of 1965 and 1970, and again in the early 1980s, Wirkkala progressively familiarized himself with the filigree technique. Exploring color, he often used the incalmo technique to create polychrome artifacts in transparent glass, which achieved considerable commercial success.
