Alessandrite

Alessandrite

Also Alexandrite.
This peculiar technique is produced with the inclusion of neodymium oxide into the molten glass. In this way, the Murano glass artwork will change color with different lighting conditions: lavender appears with natural, yellowish or warm white artificial light. Blue under fluorescent or cold white light.

The name comes from the gemstone alexandrite, a variety of chrysoberyl , that has similar colors and properties. Alessandrite was invented to imitate it.
